Every year there are approximately 9 million people infected with TB worldwide. In the next 10 years, it is estimated there will be up to 1 billion people infected with TB. Out of those 1 billion, 200,000 will become ill and 35 million deaths may occur without adequate screening, diagnosis and treatment. Also, without proper treatment, TB can develop into Multi-drug resistant TB. The incidence of multi drug resistant TB (MDR TB) in the United States alone is estimated at 2-5% of all TB cases. MDR TB is a strain resistant to at least 2 of the first line drugs used to treat TB.
