The goal of this article is to introduce the duties of the psychiatric nurse and the environment of the psychiatric unit to those new to this specialty. This course will cover the responsibilities of the floor nurse, the admission process, charting, and daily structure of a typical in-patient psychiatric program. It will also touch on patients’ rights and responsibilities.
