  • Identify some side effects of medications that HCAs need to be aware of.

  • Discuss HCAs assisting with self-medication in client’s private homes.

  • List the 5 rights of medication administration.

  • Give a basic definition of ‘self-medication’ and briefly discuss laws related to assisting with self-medication in assisted living facilities.

  • Describe different routes of medication assistance the CNA is allowed to do and what an HCA might do with their clients.

  • State which actions a CNA or HCA can legally perform.

  • Discuss signs of drug abuse or misuse.
