The purpose of this course is to provide a greater understanding of a ventricular assist device (VAD) therapy and its application. Assisting the nurse in understanding the mechanism, indications, categories, complications, and precautions associated with using a VAD increases the nursing professional’s confidence level. Emphasis of this course will be on the nursing management of a VAD, as well as the nurse’s role during a VAD insertion, post-insertion care, and troubleshooting of potential complications associated with VAD therapy.
