This course provides an overview of pain prevalence, the different types of pain, and the nurse’s role in the assessment and management of pain. Validated, best practice pain tools are reviewed. Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic methods of pain management are discussed with an emphasis on multimodal methods of treatment. Pain management for children, adults, the elderly and those with dementia are addressed.
