The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of elder abuse. The various types of abuse will be discussed and their implications. Statistics about the increasing incidence of elder abuse and their significance will be discussed. Risk factors for abuse and how to report abuse will be discussed. Screening tools for abuse are important tools. Two of those tools will be explored. Nurses have the responsibility to report, identify, and try to prevent abuse of the elderly population.
