HIPAA – It’s More Than Just Privacy

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge.  Health care is ever changing and the family of involvement is at an all-time high.  Health care professionals must be very careful to not violate patient privacy.  One violation can have severe consequences for both the patient and the health care professional.
